Google Issues

A few days ago, I was signing into my email, when suddenly, a message came up on the screen that said something like, "Your Google account has been disabled. Unless you can prove you are thirteen or older in 30 days, your account will be deleted.  That made me REALLY mad, because I think that's the craziest rule ever! I didn't want to lose my whole blog and email! But we eventually found out about a different way to get it back by paying 30 cents or something, so that is how I am writing this right now. If anyone has experienced the same thing, let me know!

Teacher's Strike

Right now, teachers in BC are taking job action to get a better contract from the government. I agree with all the things they are asking for. but because of the job action, schools wont offer extra-curricular activities and clubs. I am really upset about this because there are so many fun things my school has to offer, so I am doing something about it. This is a letter to my class.

Did you know that teachers in BC are trying to get a better contract from the Provincial Government?  Right now, our teachers are some of the lowest paid in Canada.  They would like a new contract which would give them a raise, as well as smaller class sizes and more support for students with special needs.

The government doesn’t want to give the teachers what they’re asking for.  You might be asking, “Why should I care about this?”  Well, to pressure the government into giving them what they want, teachers have taken job action.  Part of this means that extra-curricular activities and clubs (like Volleyball, Dance Club, etc) will not be offered until this is settled.

I don’t want to miss out on all the fun things Confederation Park usually offers students.  I’m guessing that you don’t either.  We can do something about this!  If you want to support the teachers, come and find me at lunch recess and after school all week.  I will be holding a clipboard with a petition that you can sign.  When I have enough signatures, I will send the petition to the Education Minister.  Tell your friends and siblings.  Even your parents can sign.

The Next Star

There is a TV show called the next star that is one of my favourite TV shows.  It shows 6 kids 15 or under who were picked out of thousands of kids who auditioned to be on the show and it shows them as they record and write their own song, film their own music video, get makeovers, and other cool stuff.  The top 6 finalists are, Parker, April, JD, Shania, Milly, and Charlie, who's real name is Melissa but her stage name is Charlie.  My favourite person is Shania. She by far has the best voice. I like Charlie too but there is one thing-she can't dance. She looks really awkward on stage and she holds her microphone at a weird angle as well.  But she is funny and interesting.

Here is Charlie singing so that you can see what i'm talking about.

so that's all and I can't wait to find out who wins the next star.

Camp

Today I just got back from Winkler Bible Camp. I had an incredible amount of fun. I was in cabin Love. The girls in my cabin were me, Madi (one of my best  friends from school), Jazmyn, Jade, Mackenzie, Joanna, Monica, Alise, Amanda, Tia, and my counselors Larissa and Erica.  We did tons of fun activities like the beach and water trampoline, rock climbing, ropes course and zip line, horses, canoes, and my favourite, the slip'n'slide.  It wasn't a regular slip'n'slide, it was actually just a big plastic sheet with lots of soap on it. One of the counselors would hold a big hose at the top for water and we would just jump on whenever we wanted to, so it ended up in lots of crashes. It was so much fun!!!!!!!  We also have chapels twice a day with funny skits and dances. We also sing lots of songs. this week the theme was the armor of God. I love the food at camp, especially breakfast. Except for the water.  It`s well water, so it has a lot of iron in it so it tastes like metal or blood.  It`s gross.  But they`re building a pump to pump the water from winkler there, so next year it will taste better. This week the competition was called showtime.  We had to put on a skit that was judged on props, costumes, story, and delivery. Throughout the week we tried to earn points to buy props and costumes.  My cabin came in 2nd.  We were beat out by my sisters cabin, Faith! The got ice cream sundaes and got to go to a carnival to play carnival games while the rest of us were in bed.  but I had an awesome time even though I did lose my glasses. But I just can`t wait untill next year!

Just Dance 2

We  got a new Wii game called Just Dance 2, and it is SO much fun.  It has so many awesome songs, me and my mom have a battle going on with Tic Tok and Sasha keeps on beating me at It's Raining Men.  My favourite songs are Iko Iko,  Firework, Big Girl, It's Raining Men, I Want You Back, S.O.S. and Move Your Feet.  My dad has the high score or about 9000 points on a very hard, weird Russian song called Rasputin. It is very funny to watch my Mom and Dad try to do the dance moves.  I still can't belive Sasha has the high score on It's Raining Men. And Ellie wants to tell you that she beat me on S.O.S. and I Got You, and she beat Sasha on Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.  So we've spent a lot of time on this thing.  We all constantly have the songs in our heads.  I really recomend getting Just Dance 2 for Wii.

Natalie and Myles Come to Play

Natalie and Myles, my 3 year old cousins, were in Vancouver for a week visiting us. We had a lot of fun together and did a lot of Wii, baseball, jumping on the trampoline, polly pockets, and barbies.  One day we went to the Aquarium.  They loved  seeing the belugas, fish, starfish, and dolphins. Another day we went to the beach. We had a lot of fun playing in the sand and water, and eating lots and lots and lots of watermelon! they say the cutest and funniest things!  Nat-"Don't change my name!", "Sasha's skirt is bee-u-tiful!" Myles-"Alwight!", Me-"Hi Jerry!" M-"Hi Larry!" Me-"Hi Perry!" M-Hi Derry!"  They are so adorable!   Nat and Myles really loved our trampoline. We had had so much fun jumping on it together! And they also liked to ride our scooters, or "skateboards" as they called them.  I can't wait untill we can see them again!

Great New Movie

Today we rented a a movie from Roger's Video.  It is a movie I have wanted to see for awhile.  It is called Lemonade Mouth, aka Lemon Breath or Lemonade Head as it is often called in my family.  It's a wierd name, but it makes more sense if you watch the movie.  It's about a band, Lemonade Mouth, who meets in detention and the rival band, Mudslide Crush. The songs are really good and catchy.  My three favorites are Turn up the Music, Somebody, and She's so Gone.

Watch Somebody here

Watch Turn up the Music here

Watch She's so Gone  here

It was such a good movie, I totally recomend it!

Last day of School

Today was the last day of school and it was only for an hour!  Most of it was the gr. 7 leaving ceremony.  I am going to miss school.  It seems like it wasn't supposed to be finished, like there should still be more school.  I can't belive that tomorrow I won't be going to school.  Next year I'll be in gr. 6, and most likely in a grade 6/7 split.  that is too crazy to belive.  I'll miss school.  I'll miss my teachers.  I'll miss my friends.....

Book Review

I read a really good book called The Other Half of my Heart by Sundee T. Frazier.  It is about twin sisters, Minni and Keira.  What makes them so special is that Minni is white like their dad, while Keira is black like their mom.  One day they get a call from Grandmother Johnson, inviting them to compete in the Black Pearls of America Pageant.  Minni dreads the spotlight, while Keira couldn't be happier.  Everyone competing in the pageant is black, so Minni feels like she stands out and doesn't belong.  Then Keira starts to question whether Minni feels she is better than her, and all of Keira's support starts to crumble.  This book is written from Minni's perspective.   Here is a picture of the book.

I read this book four times in a row.  That's when you know it's a good book!

Babysitting

In April, I took a babysitting course, because now I am eleven.  It was pretty fun!  I have actually babysat 4 or 5 times for some friends.  There are 2 kids, Susie and Alejandro.  Susie is 4 and Alejandro is 6.  They are really fun to be with.  Susie is so cute!  She has a bear named Freddy, because "her real name is Freddy Teddy, even though she's a girl."  She loves to draw and "to make the picture really really colourful."  Alejandro loves all things hockey and Canucks.  His favourite thing to do is to play hockey in the hallway with his mini sticks.  I can't wait untill I have more jobs.  Today I got 15 dollars!

'til the next post,  Hannah

The Show!!!

Today was our show, the one I talked about in my post about Katy Perry's song Firework.  If you haven't read it already, click here.

Everyone did amazing, really good.  I had lots of fun.  The show was based around students real experiences facing oppression, bullying, diversity, and racisim.  The "director" for all of this has been a woman named Patti Allan. She was our "artist in residence" for this year. She was great at encouraging us to speak louder and not be shy.  I'd say she did a really good job.  My class was  in a scene called Sports Day, about a girl named Jasmine who gets bullied because she is really small.  Me and 4 other kids from my class danced in a piece called "Emma's Journal".  It's about a girl who experiances racisim from her best friend.  I was also in the finale dance, the one with the song Firework.  The show was really good and I can tell that the conversations at recess will be a lot different from now on.  I wish everyone in the world could have seen this, because it really does make people think before they speak. And now.............THE PICTURES!!!!

This a girl in my class playing her harp during the lantern parade.

        During the finale dance

On the right, my teacher Ms. Parmar, on the left, Patti Allan, our director.

                                                                    After the show.

    Playing with our scarves afterwards.

      It was a great show!

Go Canucks!!!  I hope they win today.  Actualy, I hope they win every day,  except for if there was some weird reason they shouldn't.

Here is the joke of the day:  There was a women driving down the road.  She is speeding.  A police officer stops her.  The policewomen says,"May I see your driving licence please?".  The women says, " What does it look like?".  The policewomen says,"It's rectangle, and it has your picture on it."  The women pulls out a mirror.  The policewomen looks at it and says, "Never mind, I didn't know you were a police officer."

bye!

Soul Surfer

A movie just came out called Soul Surfer.  It is about a girl named Bethany Hamilton who, while surfing, got her arm bitten off by a tiger shark.  It is a true story, it happened in 2003.  When I was in grade two my  mom got me her book that she wrote.  I really really really loved the book.  I was so excited when I heard about the movie.  She is so amazing, because she is still surfing even with one arm.  The movie is really good,  incredible.  I suggest that you go see it soon.

My Mom Thinks Luke Skywalker is a Whiner

We just finished watching Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and my mom says that she hates Luke Skywalker.  She thinks he whines and is babyish.  She likes Han Solo much better, and is glad that Princess Leia loves him instead of Luke.  She wants to know if anyone actually wishes Leia would love Luke.   Want more proof?  Nobody voted for Luke on my poll.  Leave a comment telling me whether you like Han Solo or Luke Skywalker better.  Oh, and who voted for Darth Vader on my poll?  Weird person.

Circus At School

There has been someone teaching gr. 5,6,7 circus arts at school during the day, We learn to juggle, balance HUGE feathers on different body parts, spin plates, use the diabolos (also called chinese yoyos), use the batons, unicycle, use the rola bolas, use the stilts (the high ones!), and use "The Giant Wheel of Death".  It is all really fun.  The rola bolas are like a long, thick tube with a big piece of plastic balanced on top. you stand on it and move side to side while trying to balance.  It is so fun.  The Giant Wheel of Death is a GIGANTIC wheel that looks like a spool of thread.  You have to stand on it and walk on it so it moves forward.  Tomorrow is our last class.  I can't wait!

A Day That Made my Feet Hurt

Today I had to be at school 30 minutes early because the demo/skipping team was going to two schools today.  The first school was called Ecole Pauline Johnson and was a French immersion school.
They had a TINY gym so we had to split our routine in half and do one half for the primaries and one half for the intermediates.  We did pretty good for our first time, although we could have done better.  The second school was called Westcott Elementary and they had a MUCH bigger gym.  We did our full routine for the whole school.  Then it was a quick rush to Confederation Park (my school) because the dance club had a dress rehersal for when we will dance in the Burnaby Dance Festival.  We grabbed a quick bite to eat and then we drove back to Confed.  Then we were off on the bus to Burnaby Mountain High School, where the festival will take place. We rehearsed, and then we were back to Confed.  My class was going swimming today as gym class, so all the kids in the Dance club had to stay with the dance/music teacher in the music room because there would have been no point in going to swim for just a little bit of time.  She but on some music and we went crazy and danced our heads off.  Then Ms. Ishii had a music class to teach so we got to sit on on it.  She got us to perform our dance club dance for the class.  Then she asked each person to say that if they good give a "dance like nobody is watching" award to someone, who would it be.  Somebody said they would give it to me twice! Then our class came back and we had to leave.  It was an awesome day, but my feet hurt!

Stanley Park, Picnics, and Flowers

Yesterday I went to Stanley Park to explore around and have a picnic.  On the way there, one of the streets was full of cherry blossoms.  We parked and walked around to take some pictures.

There were also other flowers planted along the street as well.

Then we got back into the van and drove to Stanley Park.  Then we walked to our picnic spot, right by the "Lost Lagoon".  We saw some swans....

...and a heron.

On the way back, we got up really close to some Raccoons.  Also know as "Coonies" according to Ellie.  Madi, remember the song, "I love Baby Racoons?

It was so much fun, and I loved seeing all the animals.  I can't wait untill we go again!

Madi.   I think you know what I am going to say.

You have not posted for three weeks!  That is not the Madi that I know.  Remember when you used to post everyday?  If you are on vacation the best thing to do would be to let people know so they do not get mad at you.  And if (when) you do post I want a nice long one.  Like the ones you used to write, remember?  I don't think you want to know what I will to do you if you do not write a post in the next week.  don't say I didn't worn you!   iai issiam earingiah romiaf ouoay!

No Idea What to Call This Post

It is Spring Break!  That means I get to sleep in.  Although I will probably be up at 6 anyway reading.

Message to Madi-  It has been 3 weeks since your last post.  Where are you?  Give us a (long) post already!

I have been reading this really good book series called Warriors.  It is about wild cats who live in the woods.  There are four clans,  the Shadowclan, the Riverclan, the Windclan, and the Thunderclan. The book is written in perspective of the Thunderclan.  The cats have their own territories and the warriors fight against the other clans.  There are 3 sub-series The first one is Warriors which is the one that I am reading, the second one is Warriors: The New Prophecy, and the third one is Warriors: The Power of Three.  They are really good and even if you don't like fantasy I would still recommend them because they aren't really hard to believe.  You think that it really is happening.

I am going to stop writing now because it is lunch time!

The Best Field Trip EVER!

Today my class took a field trip to Victoria. We took the ferry (of course). Here are some pictures from when we were leaving the mainland.

                                                              This was inside the ferry.
These pictures  were taken inside, looking out the window.   It was raining on the way there, so we couldn't go out on the decks.

This was a picture of an orca that we saw.....

....Not!
It is just a picture of a poster of an Orca, because we didn't see any real ones.

This is a picture of the people I was with on the ferry. Sorry the picture is so dark.
From left to right: Holly, Wesley, Emma, Trinity, and Harmony.  Wesley and Emma were in my group.

This is a picture of another ferry.  It is the type that we were on.

Here, we are almost at the docks.

Here we were unloading when we spotted a heron in the trees.  Click on the picture and see if you can see it in the tree on the left.

We stopped in Chinatown and had lunch in a delicious Chinese restaurant.

We have been reading a book that takes place in Victoria in Chinatown mostly in a place called Fan Tan Alley.  Fan Tan Alley is a skinny little alley that has some shops and things in it.

Where the shops are, it widens a bit.

Another  main place in the book is a store that they call the Never-ending Store.  It isn't really called that, but I can see why they did decide to call it the Never-ending store.  You enter the first room, and then at the back there is another room.  And then there is another.  Then you think it is the end but there is another, and another, and another, and another.  These are a few of the many rooms.

Fans purchesed by Emma and Wesley in the Never-ending Store.

The gates to Chinatown.

After Chinatown, we walked to the Provincial Legislature.

We took a tour of the building.  This is the roof.

This is the Legislative Chamber.  Unfourtunately, we didn't get to go in.

Here the gaurd is unlocking the jail in the basement.

The flowers were blooming.

Here we are at the Royal B.C. Museum.  This is the Beatles yellow submarine.

This is the life-size woolly mammoth.  It was really cool.

This was the once alive sea anemone that we got to touch. It was so creepy.
Just a really big crab.

This was on the ferry leaving Victoria.

The weather was nice so we were allowed on to the decks.

It was really windy on the decks.

On the bus back to the school, the kids in the back had a party.  there was no lights on, and a couple kids brought laser lights.  We sang, told funny stories, and told ghost stories. And we laughed like crazy.  I was using my flash, so the pictures are way brighter than it was in the bus.

Here are the lights

Annika telling her story

This picture is when Bianca was telling her funny ghost story.  "Hiya Georgie!"  Oh, we laughed so hard.  The girl in the back has a Kleenex because she had a nosebleed.

I had such a fun time, and I learned a lot about my classmates. I can't wait untill my whole family goes.

Untill the next post, Hannah
